5k for Animals 2022

This year there are three great organizations to support.  Feel free to choose whichever resonates with you.

Mercy for Animals

The mission of Mercy for Animals is to "construct a compassionate food system by reducing suffering and ending the exploitation of animals for food".  Mercy for Animals leads undercover investigations to show what actually goes on at factory farms, works with companies to develop animal welfare policies, and engages the public through media and outreach.  Mercy for Animals also has a unique program called Transfarmation, which helps farmers transition from animal agriculture to growing plant-based foods for humans.  Learn more about Mercy for Animals here.

Vegan Outreach

Vegan Outreach works to end violence towards animals for "a future when sentient animals are no longer exploited as commodities".   Vegan Outreach brings presentations, food tastings, leafleting and virtual reality showings to thousands of colleges, community events, and festivals.  Vegan Outreach also has a Vegan Food Aid program that has given plant based groceries to individuals in food-insecure areas, including communities in the Navajo and Cherokee Nations.  Vegan Outreach also has Chef Challenges that encourage vegan options at restaurants.  Learn more about Vegan Outreach here.

Farm Sanctuary

Farm Sanctuary "fights the disastrous effects of animal agriculture on animals, the environment, social justice, and public health through rescue, education, and advocacy".  Thousands of students are reached through their humane education program, and the organization encourages community advocacy to bring institutional policy change.  Their Farm Animal Adoption Network helps place factory farm survivors in safe and loving homes.  Farm Sanctuary is itself a home to rescued farm animals, and has given 922 survivors a life of peace instead of suffering.  You can read more about Farm Sanctuary here, and click here to meet their current residents!
